Four persons have been awarded with death penalty for killing a college student in the district.
Satkhira District & Sessions Judge Sadikul Islam pronounced the verdict around 11.00 am on Wednesday.
Besides, six other accused were acquitted in the case.
The case was filed over the sensational murder of college student Gowtam Sarkar.
Death penalty convicts are Ali Ahmed Shawon, son of Abdul Alim at Bohera village under Debhata upazila, Shahadat Hossain, son of Abdul Korim Morol at Bharukhali village, Saju Sheikh, son of Rezaul Sheikh at Mohadebnagar village and Nazmul Hossain.
According to the prosecution, Goutam Sarker, a second-year student of Shimanto Degree College and son of Ganesh Sarker, a union parishad member from Mahadebnagar village in sadar upazila, was killed after being abducted by the accused following previous enmity on 13 December 2016.
The victim's father filed a case accusing six people on 16 December 2016.
On 18 April 2017, police submitted charge-sheet against 10 people.
After examining records and witnesses, Satkhira district and session judge Sadiqul Islam Talukder handed down the verdict and acquitted six others as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
