Eid-Ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, is likely to be celebrated in the country on Saturday, subject to the sighting of moon. If moon is not sighted on Friday, the festival must be celebrated on Sunday, as Ramadan will complete the 30th day of it on Saturday. All out preparations have already been taken for Eid congregations across the country. Law enforcement agencies have already taken special security measures across the country including the capital Dhaka to avoid any unwanted incident on the festival day. The main Eid jamaat (congregation) of the Eid-Ul-Fitr will be held at National Eidgah on the city's High Court premises at 8:30am on the Eid day. Maulana Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, senior Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, will conduct the prayer. People interested in attending Eid jamaat at National Eidgah are requested not to take somethings, without prayer mats and umbrellas. At Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, five Eid congregations will be held from 7:00am to 10:45am. Other jamaats will be held at 8:00am, 9:00am and 10:00am gradually. Two people were killed in 16 others were injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Nimtola Majhar area on Dhaka-***’s Bazar highway of the district’s Patiya upazila on Friday noon. The victims could not be identified immediately. Mizanur Rahman, In-Charge of Patiya highway police outpost, confirmed the news to Deshismash. He said two buses collided head-on while crossing each other, leaving two killed on the spot and 16 of both bus passengers injured. The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said, there is no threat of militant attack during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr. The top police official made the assertion after visiting the arrangement of National Eidgah in the capital on Thursday. "Those who got release from jail are in police surveillance. That’s why there is no threat of militant attack," he said. DMP Commissioner said that multitier security systems will be ensured including CC cameras, dog squad, bomb disposal unit, SWAT, plain dressed police. More than one lakh Muslim devotees, including the President, Cabinet members, politicians, and diplomats are expected to join the congregation. The main jamaat will be held at 8:30am. The sheds for the Eid congregation have already been made by using 43,000 bamboos. Necessary arrangements including waterproof shed, fans, sitting place, toilets and ablution facilities have been set up at the Eidgah for more than one lakh Muslim devotees. A massive security by law enforcers will be taken in the Eidgah. The total area will be monitored by close circuit cameras (CCTV).

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said 30 percent of prisoners are involved in drugs. He said, “Capacity of our prisons is 35,000. Now there are 86,339 inmates in jails. Of them, 39 percent are involved in drugs.” The Minister said this while speaking at a round table titled “Anti-drug drive and social attitude” at the capital’s BIISS auditorium on Saturday. Kamal said, “Many were held in the ongoing anti-drug drive across the country. Many of them were sued. Many were also sent to jail through mobile courts.” In reply to query over ‘gunfight’, the Minister said, “Where there are drugs, there are illegal money and arms. So, firing must if any drive is conducted there.” When asked about Teknaf municipality councillor Akramul’s murder, Kamal said, “The matter is under investigation. Steps must be taken if someone is found guilty in this case.” The Minister said, “Myanmar is sending Yaba to Bangladesh with state patronisation. I informed the matter to Suu Kyi. But they did not take any step. The biggest route to Yaba is the Naf River. We already imposed a ban on fishing in the river to prevent Yaba smuggling.”
Finance Minister AMA Muhith has presented Tk 4,64,573 crore national budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 in Parliament giving priority to power and energy sector, education and health sector. The Finance Minister began rolling out the budget around 12:53pm. This is the last budget of the Awami League-led coalition’s second successive term in power and also be the 12th budget for Muhith personally. Earlier, around 12:15 pm, President Abdul Hamid authenticated the national budget and the revised budget for placing before the Jatiya Sangsad. On Monday, while talking to reporters, Muhith wished for higher revenue earnings, encouraged by the number of taxpayers having reached almost 3.3 million, with a large chunk of the newly registered ones being young people. “I feel very good after 10 years,” Muhith said, adding that people were unwilling to pay taxes due to harassment when he started. “I don’t think it exists anymore in the country.” The revenue collection target for the coming fiscal year is likely to be fixed at Tk 340,775 crore, up 18 percent from the Tk 287,990 crore set for the current, outgoing fiscal. However, Finance Ministry officials said the revenue target will be fixed in such a way so that the budget deficit remains within 5 percent. The government proposed the GDP target for the upcoming fiscal year at 7.8 percent. Earlier, the Cabinet approved the national budget at a special meeting at the parliament complex.
